Between Light and Shadow

Continuing our occasional series of exhibitions that highlights artists’ response to colour, Between Light and Shadow explores the moments when colour is removed allowing tone, gesture and line to speak for itself.

Continuing our occasional series of exhibitions that highlight artistic responses to colour, Between Light and Shadow brings together artists and makers, across generation, whose work is rooted in the monochromatic spectrum, allowing tone, gesture and line to speak for itself.

Inspired by gallery owner Lotte’s background in black and white photography, the exhibition will include her own photographs alongside works by celebrated landscape photographer Paul Hart and 1970’s fashion photographer James Wedge.

The art of printmaking in black and white will be celebrated through etchings by the Norman Ackroyd RA, Sarah Gillespie and Roger Law, wood-engravings by Andy English, linocuts by Andrew Carter and monotype prints by Fiona Fouhy. We are once again delighted to be working with The Print Studio, Cambridge to exhibit screenprints by Stephen Chambers RA and Willard Boepple, as well as a collection of rarely-seen woodcuts by Kip Gresham.

Other works include charcoal drawings by emerging artist Olly Williamson, first exhibited in Voices in Drawing II (2024), wooden turned vessels by Jim Partridge, ceramics by Cambridge-based potter David Stonehouse, sculptural textiles by Hannah White and mixed media drawings by David Emond.
