FAQs: Contemporary Printmaking Prize 2021

How do I enter the Contemporary Printmaking Prize?
Entries to the prize must be made via the entry form here. Entries made by any other way will not be accepted.

What is the prize?
The winner of the Contemporary Printmaking Prize will be awarded £500 and be featured across the Fen Ditton Gallery website and networks. They will also be interviewed by Hannah for our podcast.

When are submissions open?
Submissions are open from Friday 5th February - Sunday 7th March 2021.

How many artworks can I enter into the prize?
You are only allowed to submit one artwork into the prize. If you submit more than one artwork, only the first will be considered for the prize.

How many photographs of my artwork should / can I upload?
You must upload a primary image showing the work in its entirety including border. If you think it would help the judges, you can also enter up to two further images showing details of your work.

The photographs titles should include your name and the name of the artwork you are submitting. Photographs must be in JPEG, JPG or PNG format and must be no larger than 4mb. Please upload high resolution images, low quality images may hinder your chances of success. The artwork must be photographed straight on in good, even light and the colours must be true to life. Make sure the work is the right way round before you upload it.

Who can enter the Contemporary Printmaking Prize?
The prize is open to UK artists working in the field of printmaking. Original prints can be submitted. Digital prints can be accepted, providing the work was conceived and produced as a digital print. Printed reproductions of original works that exist in another medium are not eligible.

Do I have to create a new work or can I submit an existing work?
We encourage you to enter a new work, however we will accept both both new and existing works. To ensure the exhibition is representative of current printmaking practices, we will only accept works that have been created in the past 3 years.

When will I know if I have been shortlisted?
Shortlisted artists will be contacted by Sunday 14th March. Due to the volume of entries, we regret that we will be unable to contact every artist that has entered the prize, so if you don’t hear from us by this date you have not been successful.

Do I have to frame my artwork?
Yes, if you are shortlisted you must deliver your artwork framed to the gallery by Friday 9th April. We will notify you by Sunday 14th March if you are successful, to allow you enough time to have the work framed. We encourage simple, neutral frames and we will not accept artworks that have been framed in clip frames.

When should I deliver my artwork to the gallery?

If you are shortlisted, your artwork should be delivered to the gallery on the 7th - 9th April. If you are unable to deliver the works in person, please arrange for a courier to deliver the work for you.

What are the dates of the exhibition?
The exhibition will be open from Friday 16th April - Sunday 16th May. There will be a private view on Thursday 15th April. More information will follow.

When will the winner be announced?
The winner will be announced at the private view on Thursday 15th April.

Will my artwork be for sale?
Yes, all prints will be for sale in the exhibition and online. When submitting your work you must include the retail price, including VAT (if applicable). You must also inform us if there are further unframed editions of the prints that will be available for purchase should we sell the exhibited print.

Will the Covid-19 pandemic effect the exhibition?
We fully intend to install and open this exhibition as currently scheduled; however, we are faced with unprecedented times and an unpredictable future due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We may be required to make amendments to the exhibition and schedule to abide by the government guidelines. We will continue to update the artists and visitors to reflect this and thank you for your understanding.
