Working with fine cotton yarns, students on this one-day course will learn the techniques of rolling the tassel mould horizontally with yarn, making a wired skirt, assembling the tassel with a two-strand suspension cord, and binding the middle with yarn or a ruff.

Each student will make two tassels to take away during the workshop

About Anna Crutchley

Anna Crutchley produces bespoke passementerie – tassels, cords, braids and fringes – for interior decorators, the antiques trade, upholsterers, heritage organisations, private individuals and fashion designers. She works mainly on short runs of individually designed and made pieces for specific interiors or pieces of furniture, specialising in research into historical design and techniques of production. She also designs and makes contemporary pieces for modern interiors.

Commissions include work for the National Trust at Ham House, Petworth House, Polesden Lacey, Powis Castle and the Vyne, and for St Paul’s Cathedral, Guildford Cathedral, the Hyundai Classic Car Museum in Seoul – Korea, the Worshipful Company of Weavers, Sir John Soane’s Museum, London, and houses in the UK, Ireland and Greece.

Anna has written a popular book on passementerie which has been published under various titles The Tassels Book, Tasselmaking, Tassels for the Home and Decorative Tassels (Anness Publishing), and is a co-author of Weave! (Sagaman) – an introduction to shaft loom weaving.

She is a workshop tutor specialising in both shaft loom weaving and passementerie, and speaker at a number of colleges and textile guilds in the UK. She has worked as a textile designer and tutor in Sri Lanka, India and Canada.
