Art, Wine and the Natural World

Fen Ditton Gallery and Cambridge Wine Merchants invite you to enjoy an evening of art and wine, with a focus on the natural world.

The next in our popular series of art and wine events, this wine tasting is taking place as part of Fen Ditton Gallery’s ‘A Conversation with Trees’ exhibition, exploring links between artists and the natural world. The exhibition brings together three generations of artists and makers whose ideas, images and materials reflect, in different ways, a conversation with trees.

In response to the exhibition, Cambridge Wine Merchants have carefully selected three wines whose makers are working in sustainable, environmentally conscious ways to support the planet, whilst also making delicious wine.

Thursday 17th October, 6 – 8pm
Tickets are £10pp
Fen Ditton Gallery, 23 High Street, Fen Ditton, Cambridge CB5 8ST

About the wines:

  • Max Ferd. Richter, Weissburgunder Trocken 2022

The winemakers at Richter believe that great wines come from the vineyard not the winery and therefore only all natural fertilisers and sustainable farming practices are used in the vineyards. This carries through to the winemaking process by utilising natural yeasts and reusing oak barrels. Their Weissburgunder is a slim and elegant pinot gris, offering notes of pear, gooseberry, some hay, and classic slate minerals. Beautiful!

  • Dom. Gayda, En Passant Rouge 2022

Dom. Gayda understand the importance of sustainability to the longevity and quality of their wines. This has led them to adopt sustainable farming practices and are working hard to preserve the biodiversity and health of their vineyards. Their winery is built on the land where the ‘Moscow Tree’ was located. This tree that was a navigation point used by Aéropostale pilots flying from North Africa to Paris. The En Passant Rouge is a blend of Syrah and Carignan, providing aromas of Cherry and Raspberry followed by notes of Black fruit and spices on the palate. Delightful mouthfeel and silky tannins creates a delicious wine.

  • Dom. De Trinités, Le Portail 2021

Simon and the team at Dom. des Trinités believe that great wine can be made without great cost to the environment around them. They use minimally invasive viticulture techniques and sustainable farming practices in the vineyards and are currently applying to become certified and recognised for their efforts in sustainability. Le Portail is a Syrah blend with soft black fruit, herbal and spice notes that have been shaped by the rocky soils beneath the vineyard.
