A Conversation with Trees

We are delighted to invite you  to ‘A Conversation with Trees’  the next exhibition in our occasional series exploring links between artists and the natural world.

The exhibition brings together three generations of artists and makers whose ideas, images and materials reflect, in different ways, a conversation with trees. A strong presence of fine printmaking is shown in woodcuts by leading German printmaker, Christiane Baumgarter; etchings and aquatints by Norman Ackroyd, linocuts by Andrew Carter, mezzotints by Sarah Gillespie and handmade paper printmaking by Jacki Parry. Sculptor Claire Curneen will be showing a new work from her Daphne series connecting us to the many myths and legends associated with trees in human culture and a selection of charcoal drawings by Kate Boucher, David Emond and Agnes Treherne, amongst others, reflects one of the deep material connections between artists and the tree. Other works include an English Ash ‘Devon Chair’ by furniture designer, Chris Eckersley, sculpture and charcoal drawings by Nigel Hall, and textiles by Sara Impey.

We are also delighted to welcome back to the gallery artist photographer Paul Hart with three works from his latest monograph ‘Fragile’ – compelling portraits of trees often found in the water filled landscape of our local fens.

More information about the exhibition coming soon. Sign up to our newsletter here.
