Pauline Burbidge
Pauline Burbidge b. 1950 studied fashion and textiles at Central School of Art and Design and is a leading exponent of the art of contemporary quilting. Founder member of the Quilters Guild, her works combine stitch, fabric collage and printmaking techniques to create vivid abstractions of the natural world. Works are in most major textile collections in the UK, including the V & A, London. In 1993 she moved with her sculptor husband Charlie Poulsen to the Scottish Borders where they have co-created a superb garden and artists studios where they run a regular guest artist programme.
“‘Starscape’ (made 2015), was the first large quilt that I made using my ‘Cyanotype’ prints, using the energy of the suns rays to expose the fabric to light to create a print. I think of this work as a Textile Landscape, I study observe and appreciate the natural world around me.”
