Alice Robinson-Carter: Headland

About the artist:

Alice Robinson-Carter is a painter, printmaker and walker based in Plymouth. Her practice is rooted in landscape, and each body of her work begins as an exploration of place. Her sketchbooks are full of drawings made directly as she moves through the moorlands and along the coastline she is fortunate to find on her doorstep, pausing to appreciate new perspectives, forage in the undergrowth and watch the birds take flight then plummet back to land. From these studies bodies of work develop, in which her experience of each place is distilled and abstracted.

To create a sense of the expansive feel of the wild environments that inspire her Alice works across mediums, working into her paintings with pastel and acrylic paint, and balancing an extraction of some of the bolder colours present in the details of the landscape, with a sense of form and texture that evidence her deep connection to the places she depicts.
