Trees are a vital part of culture and an integral part of our climate-balanced future. They provide us (and a whole host of other living creatures) with food, shade and shelter; they filter and balance air and water systems and their materials are used in everything from architecture to medicine.

Trees are important to Fen Ditton Gallery too, not least because gallery owner, Lotte Attwood, has been clearing and restoring some remnant orchard and woodland behind the gallery which is set to become a key focus of the gallery’s artist residency programme from 2025 onwards.

‘A Conversation with Trees’ is the next exhibition in our occasional series exploring links between artists and the natural world. The exhibition brings together three generations of artists and makers whose ideas, images and materials reflect, in different ways, a conversation with trees.

Works by: Norman Ackroyd RA CBE, Christiane Baumgartner, Kate Boucher, Andrew Carter, Claire Curneen, Chris Eckersley, David Emond, Sarah Gillespie, Nigel Hall RA, Paul Hart, Sara Impey, Jacki Parry and Agnes Treherne.
