In Conversation: ‘Old Questions, New Answers’ Curator and art historian Gill Hedley discusses the work of artist weaver Ann Sutton
Fen Ditton Gallery is delighted to welcome distinguished art historian and former director of Contemporary Art Society, Gill Hedley to discuss the work of Ann Sutton OBE b. 1935. Sutton is one of the UK’s most influential textile artists and designers, with works held by both Tate and V & A Museum. Her recent (2022) exhibition at New Art Centre, Roche Court ‘On from Weaving’ celebrated five decades of innovation with an insightful essay by Hedley. Hedley has known Ann Sutton from the late 1980s and worked closely with her on several exhibitions.
Gill Hedley began her career as a museum curator; then she became an exhibitions organiser for the British Council, and between 1993-2006 director of the Contemporary Art Society. She worked as a freelance curator from 2006 until a new life as a writer took over in 2019. Currently, she is alternating biographies of private collectors/dealers from the mid-20th century with architectural history. She is a Trustee of the Art Monthly Foundation. www.gillhedley.co.uk
