Lizzie Farey b.1962 Singapore originally studied fine art and stained glass at Cardiff College of Art but since 1991 willow has been both the material, and the means through which she explores her interest in land and environment.  Based in rural Galloway, South West Scotland, for the past 30 years, Farey has developed a direct and responsive way of working with woven structures, drawing on traditions of basketmaking (early tutors were David Drew and Joe Hogan) but extending those traditions into striking wall drawings and larger sculptures that embody the energy of the natural world. Works can be found in the collection of National Museums, Scotland and Shipley Art Gallery and a growing number of international private collections.

“I have a fascination with living things and natural form. For me, willow has become a medium for an interaction with nature that is deeply personal.”
